A Modern Witch by Debora Geary6/30/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() There is little in the way of dread, death or any concepts that might be considered dark. The conflicts that Debora introduces are mostly fluff, designed to keep the story moving. ![]() Debora is all about creating happy people living in happy communities and finding happy endings.Īnd these books do pretty much the same thing. The Witch Central series doesn’t differ that drastically from its predecessors when it comes to the overall look and feel of the world. Debora Geary created her world of Witches in 2011 and didn’t bring things to an end until 2014 when she released A Dangerous Witch, the book that capped the whole Modern Witch Universe off. The series also utilizes concepts from its predecessors, though it attempts to do a few new things. The third series set in this world after A Modern Witch and Witchlight Trilogy, this series makes use of a number of characters that were first introduced in the Modern Witch and Witchlight Trilogy books. Witch Central breaks away from Debora’s character-oriented approach and attempts to take a broader look at the world the witches inhabit. However, by the time she brought that particular universe to a close, she had written quite a number of novels set in that world, this including Witch Central, a spinoff of the Modern Witch books. ![]() However, following the implosion of her marriage, Debora finally put a cap on the books, unable to return to the well of happiness and joy that initially allowed her to produce the Modern Witch Books. ![]()

The men of this time are presented as far stronger and mightier than those who came after them. Many scholars today believe that, if anything like the Trojan War ever happened, the most feasible historical background for the heroic age of the epics is the Late Bronze Age, about 400 years before the Iliad and Odyssey were first written down. The poems may also preserve memories of an earlier, heroic age. ![]() The story of the judgement of Paris, in other words, is at least contemporary, if not older, than the poems themselves. ![]() It's taken for granted that anyone coming to the poems would already have known the details. The story of the origins of the Trojan War, for example, in which Paris, prince of Troy, granted Aphrodite, goddess of love, the golden apple, is alluded to only briefly by Homer. On the right, Helen is approached by three women bringing jewellery and perfume. Aphrodite, last of the three, lifts her dress to show a flash of leg. At the left, Paris awaits the three goddesses. This Etruscan painting from a tomb shows the Judgement of Paris. ![]() Louise penny a better man review6/30/2023 ![]() Increasingly hounded by the question, how would you feel…, he resumes the search.Īs the rivers rise, and the social media onslaught against Gamache becomes crueler, a body is discovered. Our story begins with Nareen Grant, and has been on her own for some time. I do love seeing this book just come alive off the pages and was thrilled to find this at my library. I devour her writing style of the Scottish Highlands and she really does the culture and accents so very well. Although its definitely Mary Wine.so of course there is no doubt that I would enjoy this book. The Highlander's Bride Trouble is the fourth and last installment in her Sutherland series and I truly had a fun time with this book. ![]() This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance. ![]() Unsettled ground by claire fuller6/27/2023 ![]() She whimpers and licks Dot’s left hand where it hangs against her thigh, pushes nose into palm, making the hand swing of its own accord, a pendulum. The dog pokes her snout through, the rest of her body following. But with great concentration she depresses it and the latch lifts. ![]() The effort of pushing on the tiny plate with her thumb seems impossible, a bodily weariness worse even than when her twins were three months old and didn’t sleep at the same time, or the terrible year after they turned twelve. The articulation is alien-the hand of an impostor. ![]() ![]() She watches her hand grasping the wrought iron, the liver spots and crosshatching seeming peculiar, unlike anything she’s seen before: the mechanics of her fingers, the way the skin on her knuckles stretches over bone, bending around the handle. Her movements must have roused the dog again because now there is a scratching at the door at the bottom of the left staircase and Dot reaches out to unlatch it. ![]() Five survive holly jackson review6/27/2023 ![]() ![]() She tries to act tough with the people in the vehicle with her, but we see throughout the book that her past, and perhaps even her chaotic present, haunts her throughout the book. The main character and narrator, Red, is carrying around a lot on her shoulders, having gone through a massive trauma prior to the beginning of the book. This leads to tension between the group and is the real bite of the second half of the novel, with the characters’ true colours coming through. The real suspense in this novel doesn’t come from just the unnerving threat of someone outside with a gun it’s that anyone in the vehicle could be the key to their freedom, and also subsequently be the reason for this situation. ![]() ![]() The premise is that of a spring trip gone horrifically wrong, with both the threat of a sniper, and, potentially, each other. It’s a novel that takes a while to take off, but when it does, it’s impossible to step away from, trapping you in the same scenario as the characters you’re reading about. Five Survive is a thrilling, fast-paced novel. ![]() A pocket full of rye julia mckenzie6/26/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Movie adaptation: the novel was adapted into the Russian film Tayna chyornykh drozdov (The Secret of the Blackbirds).Published as a novel for Christmas 1953, it was well received by critics and public alike who had long been accustomed to looking forward to a good read for the festive season.
